Description

The visit to the Duomo goes back to the history of the Florence Cathedral, willed and designed by the Italian architect Arnolfo di Cambio in the last years of the thirteenth century. The history of this building is a collection of top names of Italian art, from Giotto to Donatello, Brunelleschi, De Fabris.

The tour will continue to the Baptistery, one of the oldest religious site of the city, that contains a mosaic attributed to Cimabue and an artistic decoration that probably inspired Dante during the writing of his Inferno.

The visit will then move to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, where the original works, that decorate the Cathedral, can be found: the doors of the Baptistery, the statues of the bell tower, the Donatello’s and della Robbia’s cantorie (marble choir lofts). Moreover the renovation of the first Cathedral façade stand out for its magnificence as well as the Pietà by Michelangelo, which the artist designed for his own grave.

The tour ends with the climb on the Brunelleschi’s dome, towering over the city with its 116 meters to finish in style the visit to the most important religious site of Florence.
