Description

Visit the old town of the city, known all over the world as “the cradle of the Renaissance”, a unique city that maintained unchanged its own charm and splendor of the past.
You will meet your guide in Santa Maria Novella, a square refined by the stunning fourteenth-century façade, made in polychrome marble, of the homonymous church.
We will move then to Piazza Duomo, with the monumental complex of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, crowned by the magnificent Brunelleschi’s dome, the Baptistery of San Giovanni (a magnificent example of the Florentine Romanesque style) and Giotto’s Bell Tower.
At this point we will enter the heart of the medieval Florence with its labyrinth of poorly-lit lanes due to centuries-old towers made in Florentine stone. Not far from here, there’s Piazza della Repubblica, one of the most graceful squares of Florence where the most exclusive cafes of the city are located.
Follow us at Orsanmichele, one of the oldest churches in Florence, famous for its 14 tabernacles decorated between 1400 and 1500 by the main Florentine guilds, each containing a statue representing the patron saint of the latter.
Passing from the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo with its renowned “Porcellino” we will reach Ponte Vecchio, famous for its jewelry stores, surely the most exclusives of Florence. Furthermore, Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge that was left untouched by the bombing during the Second World War.
We will walk along the river Arno, a place hosting one of the most famous museum in the world, next to Piazza Signoria, surrounded by some of the most important buildings of the city. In front of Palazzo Vecchio a copy of Michelangelo’s David rises, while the Loggia dei Lanzi displays a real open-air sculpture museum, showing masterpieces like Benvenuto Cellini’s Perseus.
Our walking tour will end in Piazza Santa Croce which owes its name to the homonymous church, one of the biggest Franciscan church in the whole word, frescoed by Giotto, where the remains of the greatest Italian artists are kept, from Michelangelo to Galileo, from Machiavelli to Rossini.
