Cosimo I de’ Medici, who shortly before had become Duke of Florence, willed the Accademia delle Arti e del Disegno (Academy of the Arts and Drawing) to provide the city of Florence with a place where it was possible to study different artistic techniques. For this reason Cosimo arranged the first core of a collection of works to let students examine and copy them.
Nowadays the Museum, as well as housing 6 (or 7) works of Michelangelo, also includes masterpieces by Domenico del Ghirlandaio, Filippo Lippi, Pietro del Perugino, Giambologna, Giotto and Lorenzo Monaco.
The tour covers 6 rooms of the museum, with masterpieces from the 13th to the 16th century, and a special surprise: a little known room, but that hosts an object loved by all. Are you curious? Came and discover it whit us!
