Discover a lesser-known face of Florence through a fascinating tour dedicated to Jewish history and culture, which has left deep traces in the social and artistic fabric of the city. A path that combines memory, spirituality and art in the heart of the Renaissance.
The tour begins in front of the majestic Synagogue of Florence, built between 1874 and 1882, is one of the largest and most fascinating synagogues in Europe, it also houses a museum that tells the history of the Jews of Florence, an important place of memory, culture and tradition.
Continuing towards the old town, walk through the streets of the ancient Jewish ghetto, once located in the area of what is now Piazza della Repubblica with its picturesque carousel. Here you can relive the stories of families who were forced to live in a closed neighbourhood, but still manage to keep alive traditions, trade and culture.
The tour also includes a visit to one of the many “stumbling blocks”, small brass cubes placed in the sidewalk in front of houses where people deported during World War II lived. They are not to stumble.. but to think.
